The cameras slowly fade back from another Subway commercial to the newest hardcore wrestling federation in the business, Land of Extreme! Though the camera’s are back from commercial breaks we should be seeing screaming fans jam packed in the New Alhambra Arena, holding signs that promote the extremists they love and degrade the extremists they love to hate. Though this would be the normal scenery of your everyday LOE event this is not the case now, as instead the cameras are in a small, abandoned wrestling arena. The arena looks to have been abandoned for ages, as dust and other stray particle fly about the air, whisping around the small arena as they continue on with their insignificant existence on this planet. The seats all appear to be empty, none occupied by any breathing soul, save maybe a few cockroaches and spiders, along with other small creatures that may lurk in the depths of the arena seating. Through the light and blurry atmosphere felt throughout the abandoned space a ring can be seen in the middle of the arena, with all seating turned to view it. Within the ring there is only one thing contained in its confines, although the surrounding ring appears old and broken. The mat cover is worn and tattered, soaked in sweat, tears, and of course blood stains that are spotted noticeably in spots around the ring floor. Though the ring appears ancient and damaged a shiny, brand new looking object, it gleams through the old and dank atmosphere that surrounds it, letting off a glinting shine that attracts attention and focus to the center of the ring. As the cameras begin to focus on the object, taking away the blurring effect that had once shielded it from our vision, we soon realize that this object it a tall ladder. It looks to be brand new, as though it had just recently been set in the ring by someone who had to have had some sort of fascination with the site of it in this setting. As the cameras look on curiously at the obviously attention grabbing ladder, out of the corner it’s vision something is seen over by one of the ring corners. The camera quickly turns its attentions to the object that is contained in the corner to see that it is not and object but a man. The man sit, slunk down in the ring corner, clad in a leather vest and ripped jean shorts, the jacket is unzipped, revealing an Avenged Sevenfold T-Shirt contained underneath it. Under his jacket and tied around his waist is a plaid long sleeve shirt, tied around his waist in an old school grunge fashion. His shorts are high enough to reveal a pair of black knee pads that cover his knees and he wears boots that are just short enough to reveal the tops of his tube socks. The man’s face though is covered by his long and curly hair as his head is bent down, looking to the floor below, keeping his identity a secret from us as he finally begins to speak in a sullen, somewhat depressed manner.
This ladder, this symbol, this is iconic for one man. A man who has risked his life on many nights to simply hurt and maim his opponents. A man who has nearly killed himself and others. A man who would soon change the way a ladder is viewed not only within the wrestling community, but the world as a whole. This man happens to be my opponent for the first edition of the Land of Extreme’s first weekly show, Mayhem!
The man then slowly raises his head up to reveal himself to be none other than Raven. Raven’s face is still surrounded by his long hair, but his facial features can be detected through the curls that surround it. His facial hair looks to be creating a goatee along with short sideburns. He looks into the camera, with black emptiness filling his eyes as he begins to speak once more.
This man goes by many names, such as, “The Charismatic Enigma” or “The Rainbow Haired Warrior”. Though these are mere pseudonyms for his real name, Jeffery Nero Hardy, or better known as simply Jeff Hardy. You see, Jeff loves to take risks, we see it on a regular basis. Most people who have watched Jeff Hardy over the years have felt themselves wondering how in the world this young man is still breathing, let alone jumping off 25 foot ladders. Many people call Jeff a risk-taker, and that is true, a lot of people like to call Jeff hardcore, which is debatable, but then there are the people who love to call Jeff, the king of extreme, which is in no way true. Now granted Jeff may be able to take a risk every now and then, it doesn’t change the fact that without that ladder that sits right in front of me, he’d still be trying to get noticed in backyard wrestling promotions with his brother. That ladder, that one object, that one household appliance has become the everlasting symbol of Jeff Hardy. Without that ladder, he is nothing; he would have never been anything to begin with. Lucky for Jeff Hardy though, that ladder will all be fair game in our match at LOE Mayhem! Jeff can jump, fly, and take every risk necessary to defeat me this week, but it will simply be all for not. Jeff Hardy will go down in flames this week as he has many times before, but this time when he down into the dark abyss of pain and anguish, he will not manage to climb back out, he will not be able to survive after he takes the final risk of the insignificant existence that he tries to dignify as a life.
Raven moves his right hand to his face to rub his nose. Before placing it back on the ring rope that he had once held it upon and staring back at the new and gleaming ladder in the center of the ring.
For in the past, young Jeff Hardy has had punishing, devastating, and seemingly unwinnable battles that he has fought, seemingly always being able to come out on top. Whether it was fighting off 500lb giants, his house catching on fire, injuries, or the all too familiar fight against addiction, Jeff has seemed to be able to use his sheer force of will and his stubborn attitude to fight off all odds but, this will sadly not be the case this week. Jeff, I know how you would take so many risks, crash and burn though tables, in the ring, through people and staging areas, that you were unable to even function, you became dependant upon pain killers to even be able to make your body cooperate to your seemingly insane demands. You became tired and drugs made you feel better, so you began to no-show events to go get high with friends, you swore it was traveling issues but everyone knew better, it cost you your job, and nearly your career. But once again you displayed that will to succeed, you fought off your inner demons of addiction, you became clean and sober, then you came to the Land of Extreme. Jeff, I applaud your actions, your will and Jeff, I promise not to cause enough pain to make you feel the need for those painkillers…. because no amount of pain killers will be able to end the hurt, the blood, the sheer agony I cause you this Friday on Mayhem! Jeff you have taken many risks throughout your career, but this week you go up against the your life’s greatest risk, when you face the cause of your demise, the bringer of pain and suffering, the bearer of agony....
Raven looks into the camera still with an ending cold stare, causing chills to run up anyone who is watching spine. Raven sits in his corner, maintaining his sullen and depressed emotions, while keeping a stoic look etched upon his face.
So who is your opponent? Some call me a martyr for society’s dysfunction, while others may call me a merciless sadist who feeds off of and simply enjoys the anguish of others, then there are people who describe me as a radical poet bent on forcing all who oppose me to follow my view of this world in which we live. So which one am I?
A slight grin tugs at Raven’s face, forming a sadistic smile, and showing a crazed emotional change.
I’d like to think I’m all three.
Raven leans forwards slightly, speaking through his hair.
Quote the Raven… Nevermore.
The Scene slowly begins to blur out with Raven’s face becoming barely visible, before slowly fading out to black.
