*Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale…*
This heavy breathing is the only thing detected by LOE cameras. No image plays upon the screen, leaving our vision blank as we try to find something to focus on through the black abyss that is currently our television screen. Yet all we can detect is the deep inhales and exhales of the living being we have yet to see. As we listen more closely the faint sound of rain becomes visible, growing louder and meshing with the hard breaths.
Cameras finally begin to slowly fade in from the blackness to reveal the rainy streets of a large city. Cars can be seen parked near curbs, while further back a Metro bus can be seen passing full to capacity with riders. All the while people can be seen going about their day while rain pelts hard to the ground surrounding them.
Some would view this city… and find it to be dark and gloomy… to see what could be an average city, doused with rain all year long…
Yet… there are some that may see its pure beauty… The soothing sound of rain… the fresh scent of the water droplets that surround you all season…
This voice is heard, but its source is undetected. As we watch our usual scene we see a person dart in front of it. Cameras soon change so that they are following this man as he sprints through the busy city street, wearing sweat pants and a matching hooded sweatshirt. People look over their shoulder at the passing being, but continue about their usual rainy day.
This rain… it’s not depressing to me… it soothes me… it comforts me…it motivates me to go above and beyond what a usual training regimen would call for…
As the monologue finishes its speech the running person breaks out from behind a building, and behind him can be seen the Space Needle, letting be known that the city this man is speaking of, is Seattle, Washington. Our focus changes from the view of the man running through the streets to a close up image of his eyes. Sweat can be seen pouring as he continues to run. His heavy breathes are clearly heard by cameras as the man’s voice is heard once more.
Running… a simple exercise… simply putting one foot in front of the other… really healthy right? So if it’s merely an exercise… why are their so many reasons to do it… True some people run simply to get their bodies into shape, but not everyone…
Some people run from their responsibilities… Maybe they can’t except that that one night stand turned out to become the mother of their child… or maybe they can’t handle all of the pressures of going through four more years of education to get their college degrees…
Others may run out of confusion and fear… They can’t grasp why their mom, who was the one person they could count on, could die from a kidney disease, when their reluctant father was the same blood type… They don’t want to think about how much pain that same drunken father can inflict upon them until their body goes limp, dead upon the floor of their own living room…
Is that why I run? Maybe… maybe in a past life… I ran from my past, I ran so far I thought it would never catch me… but it did. It seems like the past can always do that… then you must face those demons, in an epic showdown within your own mind…
That is no longer the reason I run… I no longer run from… but to… I run to achieve my goals… I run to reach a dream… I run to be at the top of my game, so that when I am faced with competition, they will know my name…
This Friday… I run to hardcore wrestling… I run to tough competition… I run to the Land of Extreme… and this Friday… I run…
The man stops, staring back at the camera before him, who has yet to see anything but his eyes. He reaches up to his head pulling back his hood, but just as he does the camera goes black.
To the X-Division Championship…
